What’s the history behind Cherry Blossoms in Chicago?

Cherry Blossoms are not natural in Chicago. Better known as the sakura flower, cherry blossoms were planted in areas like Jackson Park. According to ABC Chicago.com to commemorate the 120th anniversary of the 1893 World’s Fair and the 50th anniversary of the Japanese Chamber of Commerce and Industry of Chicago over ten years ago. Since being planted, the cherry blossoms have only bloomed a handful of times.

When do Cherry Blossoms bloom and how long do they last?

Depending on the weather, spotting blooming cherry blossoms can vary from year to year. It’s always a good idea to check the latest forecast and bloom reports before making a trip to any of the surrounding gardens.
