Some of the biggest and most iconic Chicago summer festivals and events have been canceled this summer due to Covid-19 and the ongoing global pandemic. This means summer festivals such as Lollapalooza, Taste of Chicago, and some of my favorites like the Silver Room Block Party are postponed until 2021.
“We understand the need to gather: As a community, we have always turned to the arts as a form of healing and spiritual awakening. Those things will be needed more than ever this summer, and it saddens me to know that we will not be together this year,” Eric Williams, founder of the Silver Room shared on the website. Silver Room is one of the biggest festivals in Chicago, drawing thousands, especially from the black community to the Hyde Park neighborhood. The city announced that all permitted city-run special events, which include most major summer festivals, would be canceled through Labor Day.
