Weekend Seekers Guide: June 29th-July 2nd

Let the wind blow you where it may this weekend in Chicago. The long holiday weekend forecast calls for venturing throughout the city this weekend. Make your way to the Northside for Ribfest and head down to the Southside for the infamous House Music Picnic. Take time in between to chill with some seasonal drink specials and a wardrobe refresh from some of the best local shops in the city.  It may seem like a lot, but your planning is complete with this weekends seekers guide courtesy of The Haute Seeker who has done it all before.

Windy City Ribfest-Uptown

Friday – Sunday |June 30th -July 2nd| Time Varies
Uptown|Lawerence & Broadway| Free

Okay. Here is another one of The Haute Seeker’s favorite festivals. I know, I have many, but this Ribfest is one of the best festivals I have ever attended since living in Chicago. The Winy City Ribfest is held in the NorthSide neighborhood of Uptown and is two block stretch of rib kings, and other festival eats. It draws a huge crowd during the holiday weekend, but the selection of vendors is worth the wait. This festival is the perfect event for the whole family to enjoy. Be sure to grab a sample rack from one of my favorite vendors, Robinsons Ribs.

Chosen Few DJS Picnic Weekend

Saturday & Sunday |July 1st – 2nd| Time Varies

Jackson Park |6401 S. Stoney Island Ave.| $40-$300

The Chosen Few Picnic has become synonymous with the summer. Last year the festival expanded into a two-day event, and let me tell you, it was a mess getting in. Like bad. Once inside though, it was, of course, an excellent experience. I went on Saturday, and it was a day filled with high energy, plenty of dancing, a beautiful gathering of diverse people. The globally recognized Southside festival is of course, back again and there is no reason why you should NOT attend. Grab your tickets now and check out my haute tips on some last minute planning.

  1. Go with a group and get a tent. You get early access, and you can bring your food which saves you tons of money.
  2. Get there early. Pre-brunch time, if issues are getting in, you are not standing in the back of the line hungry and upset.
  3. Leave before dark. Less tom-foolery, more of your evening to enjoy.
  4. If you can’t deal with porter potties, upgrade to VIP. It’s a corporately sponsored area with drinks, seats, and of course better porcelain stalls.

Where’s Waldo in Wicker Park

All Month Long |July

Volumes Bookcafe| Free

Celebrate the book character who has been in the game for 30 years starting this Saturday.  Where’s Waldo is an iconic children’s book character that is coming to life throughout the Wicker Park neighborhood. During the month of July, participants can visit twenty-five local businesses, collecting passport stamps for each Waldo they spot. The stamps and signatures can earn some pretty big prizes and gifts cards to use at local shops like Volumes Bookcafe. This is a great way to shop local and venture into various shops and restaurants in this popular neighborhood. Learn more about the month-long event and participating shops here.
