Weekend Seekers Guide: January 4th – 7th

Welcome to the first weekend of 2018! This weekend, be cozy and comfy at Carnivale with their annual pajama brunch, attend a runway show and pop-up shopping event with ALMVGTHY. Watch newly choreographed work by the Chicago Dancemakers Forum. Support the continued relief efforts to aid the citizens of Puerto Rico with a community of Chicago artists. The Light Fashion Show

ALMVGHTY Clothing is back again for its second annual pop-up shop experience. Their event seeks to ” inspire, uplift, and empower Chicagoans through artistic expression.” The event will feature a runway show featuring unreleased designs, an art installation, musical performances, and special guests with a portion of the proceeds benefitting the non-profit organization Kids Off the Block. Indoor Market at the Plant

Miss shopping at your favorite outdoor market? No worries, The Plant has got you covered. Join them this weekend for their first winter market of 2018. The market will feature over a dozen food vendors and makers, along with cooking demonstrations, and facility tours taking place throughout the day. National Spaghetti Day at Francesca’s

The Latin American inspired restaurant will host their ” Carnival Pajama Brunch this Sunday and invite all guests to join them for live music, a photo booth, mimosa kits, and a bloody mary bar, all in the comfort of their jammies. Many Americans are still suffering the effects of hurricane Maria in Puerto Rico. A vast majority, still without power. Chicago Creatives for Change invites you to enjoy an all-day event featuring musical talent, visual artists, and more. Activities include a live talent show, yoga, paint and sip, and after-party featuring multiple DJs. Proceeds from the event will be donated to two on-the-ground organizations working directly with the citizens of the island. Innovation in Chicago Dance: Community Engagement

The Chicago Dancemakers Forum, the ‘only organization, dedicated to artists advancement in dancemaking’ will be launching its 15th year with a series of public dialogues and performances of newly choreographed work. The event will also provide an artist-to-artists exchange on innovation as well as sessions dedicated to application information on grants and programs for dancemakers and choreographers. The first weekend of the month is a great time to attend art openings which as taking place around several neighborhoods in Chicago. A couple of highlights from Chicago Gallery News that seem tremendously interesting are openings featuring works by Nicholas Pinto and Eddie Owens Martin who will have works featured in River North and River West respectively.
