This weekend, Victory Gardens becomes a shopping destination for the finest products from the best Black-owned and operated beauty companies in Chicago. Tickets include entrance into the Black Beauty festival, a champagne cocktail to sip while you peruse local beauty products, a Victory Gardens Theater swag bag, and a ticket to a performance of acclaimed playwright Antoinette Nwandu’s BREACH. Explore how equality is being translated within the Chicago creative community with Behind the Seams featured designer Letesha Reene of Eugene Taylor Brand. Through a 15-minute video series, you will hear from 40 diverse creatives as they define equality for themselves and their respective industries. The video will be followed by a discuss featuring four of Chicago’s leading voices on the issues & topics expressed in the videos. 2018 Argyle Luna New Year Parade

Argyle “L” stop | Free The annual Argyle Lunar New Year Parade is a decades-old local tradition celebrating the start of the new Lunar Year. Kick off the Year of the Dog with music, colorful lion dances, entertainment, and more! Come along with a professional of local groups and floats starting at the Argyle “L” stop. The event will also feature Bầu Cua Cá Cọp (Traditional Vietnamese New Year Game), a community arts activity, a wishing well with small lanterns, homemade mooncakes, chia seed pudding, and a community photo booth. Actor, writer and director Roger Guenveur Smith performs his one-person show, Frederick Douglass Now, in honor of the Frederick Douglass Bicentennial. Smith bookends classic 19th-century texts by Douglass with original narrative to achieve a stylistic mash-up informed by the present American moment.
