This first weekend in August is a reminder that both June and July quickly came and left. Like really, where did summer go? No worries, there is still plenty of things to do in the city. This weekend Chicago host one its biggest music festivals, the South Side is all about #TheTakeBack, find some unique Chicago Made Goods, and get a taste of Haiti in one of the cities most diverse neighborhoods. The Reader will host its late summer shopping event this weekend in the West Loop. Last year I made my way to Made in Chicago Market and found some local #hauterated finds. This is the market is a celebration of DIY, a showcase featuring apparel, housewares, food, and drink all locally crafted and made in the Chicagoland area. Free admission AND parking! Looking to expand your global palette? You can make it happen this weekend at A Taste of Haiti event held at the Kizin Creole restaurant in Rogers Park. The food experience will feature an all you can eat buffet of dishes such as Mayi Moulen( cornmeal/ polenta) and Fritay( fritters). In addition to the authentic cuisine, diners will also experience a taste of Haitian music and art. Reservations are required, save your seat here.

Growing Home in partnership with the Greater St. Johne AME Church Garden Project and the Throoper’s Block Club host an evening of food, drinks, and community fun to support the continuous growth of the organization’s urban agriculture and job training programs. The evening will feature food and refreshments from local community partnerships such as FIG Catering, Sweetgreen, Whiner Beer, and Laine’s Bake Shop. Proceeds will be divided between both community organizations. This adult-friendly event is perfect for a Friday night date all in efforts to support the Greater Englewood community.

Since its inception in 2014, the #TheTakeBack has sought to provide a day of peaceful fun for kids living on the South Side of Chicago. This year, the anti-violence / gun deterrent initiative will provide school supplies for each attendee, award larger scholarships to more children, increase awareness across all platforms & acquire more sponsorship through various networks. This organization needs the whole city of Chicago’s support to make it truly successful. #TheTakeBack needs volunteers, donations, and even youth involvement to make the event truly impactful. Lollapalooza

Lollapolzoo is definitely not for the faint of heart. The four-day music festival will feature over 170+ music acts across 8 different stages, all taking place in Grant Park. This year the city’s very own Chance the Rapper will headline. The line-up also features incredible acts such Blink-182 Arcadeacde Fire, Migos and more. The fest is sold out, but brokers come easy in this city. It should be easy to find a wrist band for VIP (best thing you will ever do) and turn up this weekend at one of the top rated music festivals in the country. Growing Concerns Poetry Collective celebrates the release of its inaugural recording WE HERE. Fusing music with narrative, lyrical, and hip hop poetry since early 2017. The two-night event is a record release will feature a slew of different performers culminating a live performance. Growing Concerns is poems and sound. What I’m Seeking:
This weekend I am attending the 21st Annual National Sales Network Conference Thursday evening and most of the day on Friday. Saturday I volunteer, plan on grabbing some quick brunch for a future food blog review, and attending a day-party at the Promontory( that’s still up in the air).
