April is a sneak peak of the wave of cultural events that hit Chicago during the summer months. This is the only guide for things to do in the city of Chicago this weekend. The Excellence of Italian Fashion

Join the Italian Culture Institute of Chicago for an evening of Italian fashion industry insight from journalist, broadcaster, and former fashion buyer Maria Vanessa Colapinto from Padova, Italy. Colapinto will give a lecture at the Italian Cultural Institute about the excellence of Italian fashion; how designers like Armani, Valentino, Pucci, Versace, Gucci, Prada, Ferragamo, Fendi, Bottega Veneta, have had successful brands that have reached millions globally. The Zuvaa Pop-up shop is back and is making has found a new home off of the Mag Mile. Zuvva is an online marketplace for one of a kind African inspired pieces fashion pieces. I attended the event last year and am a huge fan of the brands that are showcased. The pieces are bold, modern, and fashion forward. Crawfish Festival at Big Jones

Big Jones brings the fresh creole flavor and soul food delights to Chicago with its southern-inspired dishes. This spring, guests are invited to indulge in the restaurant’s first annual Crawfish Festival. Big Jones will bring to the table its all-time favorite crawfish dishes such as Crawfish Boudin and etouffee now until April 15th.  Laissez les bon temps rouler Chicago!


Black Kat Club Grand Opening

Take a trip back in time to 1920’s Chicago with the Black Kat Club. The location of one of the oldest brothels in Chicago will respond this Friday as a newly reinvented bar/ restaurant. Guests are treated to sponsored cocktails by Ketel One as well as all night drink specials and entertainment.

Get Money Out of Chicago Elections

Join the United Neighbors of the 35th Ward as they  “stamp out” the politics in Illinois. UN35 endorsed Reclaim Chicago’s Fair Elections Campaign last fall, a community effort to diminish the influence of big money in local Chicago elections. This Sunday, meet Ben Cohen, founder of Ben and Jerry’s Ice Cream, and other community leaders to support the movement to get grassroots candidates elected at the local level and get big money out of our elections! The University of Chicago celebrates the poetry, life, and power of Chicago-born author and poet Gwendolyn Brooks. To commemorate her, the influence, UChicago will host several events from Thursday through Sunday that will feature poetry readings, panel discussions, and live music by local artists. Jason Brammer Open Studio

Join fellow Humboldt park residents and art lovers from around Chicago for a one-night open studio party celebrating art, music and more. The evening will feature new pieces and prints from Jason Brammer, the well-known artists whose work is featured in corporate offices such as Linkedin to large scale murals across the city of Chicago. Beverages and other delights will be on-site from local companies such as Pipeworks Brewing Company, tacos from Mi Tocaya Antojeríaand coffee from Dark Matter Coffee.

What I’m Seeking:

I have a lot of April babies in my life. This weekend I will be celebrating their birthdays while also catching up on some cultural events in the city.
