Haute Style Options for a Cool New Years Eve

Thinking about wearing that super short, shimmery, mini dress to your New Years Eve celebration?

You may want to reconsider.

So far, we have been fortunate enough(or unfortunate depending on who you ask) to experience higher than normal temperatures this December.  This completely changes as we move into 2016.

Accuweather reports that on  New Years Eve in Chicago, temperatures will only peak around the mid to lower twenty degree mark in the daytime, while the night will fall to about 10F.

So what should you wear instead? No need to completely abandon your original outfit. Here are some alternatives and add-ons to keep you warm this New Years Eve in Chicago.

Midi Dress

The midi dress is my personal favorite and should be a staple in every woman’s closest. This all-purpose piece is perfect for a cool night. It provides a certain amount of conservativeness with its length,  yet oozes sexiness by accentuate any woman’s shape in the most flattering way possible. This look by Akira  gives you both warmth and edge.

Thigh High Boots

Thigh high boots are perfect for keeping those bare legs warm in extremely cold temperatures. They are purposeful and playful as they will draw much wanted attention to exposed thighs, should you be rocking a shorter dress or mini skit ensemble. Check out this great pair from Stuart Weitzman, available at Nordstrom.

Fashion Statement Tights

You no longer have to bare the winter weather in bare legs. The under-the-radar accessory of fashion tights are not like the ones your grandmother was seen wearing back in her prime. They are a fun and eye-catching alternative to plain ol’ panty hose. Styles and brands vary. You can find a great selection such as the featured metallic spot tights by Kate Spade at department stores like Bloomingdale’s.

Fur: Faux or No

A fur of some type is a must in this weather, especially for a formal holiday like New Years Eve. Whether you wear real or fake( I adore both) make sure this essential winter must is in your closet for the remainder of the season. Now is the perfect time to grab this piece. End of the season sales are in full swing as retailers attempt to rid their racks for their resort and spring 16′ collections.

Go for  a faux fur coat from H&M to pair with leather trousers and a lacey blouse. Or, a fur stole, for an upscale New Years Eve event, such as the fox fur featured by Marni which is available at Barneys.

It’s not too late to make some last minute adjustments to your holiday ensemble. Many of these pieces can be found at shops on Michigan avenue or State Street for your shopping connivence.

Share your New Years Eve looks fellow seekers and remember to stay safe and warm as you celebrate the ending of 2015 and the arrival of 2016!

Happy New Years!
