Last year’s Pantone color for 2018 was UltraViolet. However, I caught this fashion trend and color wave a little later. Like, a whole year later. The color purple did not resonate with me until recently. As I was writing my affirmations, it made me think about how important color is in setting the mood for your year as well. I am one of those people that fully believes in the psychology of color. Maybe it is my artistic background, but I wholeheartedly embrace the idea.
According to Very Well Mind, “psychology suggests that colors can have a powerful impact on our moods and even behaviors—People often describe this color as mysterious, spiritual, and imaginative. Purple tends to occur rarely in nature, so it is viewed as rare and intriguing.” Color is a way of communicating. And this year, I want to express and create in ways like never before.
That is why purple is the perfect color for me to embrace this year and what a better way to do that than with the ideal purple outfit! It possesses an energy of power. It symbolizes royalty, passion, independence, luxury, intuition, and creativity—all of these things I am striving to own as I reign and rule in 2019.
Purple is always one of those colors that shows up in the spring and fall. Most often, you will see someone in a deep purple colored gown for a formal event or in a lavender top come spring, but it never sticks around year around. To embrace my power color, I wanted to make sure that I adorned myself with purple in all of the right places. If I was going to wear it, I was going to fully commit to the color to create the perfect purple look.
How To Wear It
The pieces I chose for this How To Wear It are more of a “wear to work” vibe, which is pretty fitting when I think about the symbols related to the color purple. After all, why wouldn’t you want to look regal and luxurious in a professional setting? I paired my wide collard blouse from H&M reminiscent of late ’70s early ’80s, with a trendy metallic pencil purple skirt from Express and my black wedge heels from Nine West. For jewelry, I decided to go bold and gold. I paired large resin drop earrings from Nordstrom Rack by Bauble Bar with a gold chain necklace.
My purple outfit may be perfect for the office, but it is a look that is wearable outside of the 9 to 5. Transition this outfit into something a little more casual by swapping out the blouse for an oversized knit black sweater or a vintage crew cut sweatshirt; add ankle boots with a low/ no heel, a pair of funky printed tights, silver jewelry like studs and a simple multi-strand necklace — a simple way to remain regally-chic.
