New Year’s Eve is just a few days away. That means, you only have a couple of days to make plans and throw together a very fabulous last-minute outfit for the celebratory occasion of your choice.
For the frigid and ever-possible snowy conditions in Chicago, it is essential to have a look that is suited for the season and oh-so-flattering. No one wants to wants to ring in the New Year in heavy boots and a full on long john ensemble. You also don’t want to catch a cold just to “be cute.” Please, don’t be that person. So, how do you create a look that is appropriate to wear while still very stylish? A little creativity, a bit of layering, a bunch of fabulous accessories is the key to slaying any NYE look successfully. See how I style three different New Year’s Eve looks that are perfect for a night out in Chicago.
Wear It to a Swanky Formal Party
The city is notorious for New Year’s Eve celebrations held at fancy hotels and high-end restaurants. If you need a formal look, go all out in a sparkly or heavily sequined ensemble. No cliché judgment here! A great option is a jumpsuit, a one-piece look that you can easily slip on, and just as quickly slip off once the night is over. This jumpsuit is a custom piece( a mix of the Naomi and Byanka as a style reference) from a local company called Assata Designs. I paired the look with my Sam Edelman calf hair, t-strap heels, and gold accessories. This look is the perfect amount of formal and sexy. The all-black color palette and sheer top give you the option to accessorize as little or as much as you want. Go all out. It is the last day of the year after all! I recommend finding oversized, big, black jewelry for this look and wearing a colored or true nude bra if you want to stand out even more.
Wear It to a ‘Kickback,’ ‘Fe-Fe,’ or Good Ol’ House Party
If you are planning on stopping by a couple of house parties, or find yourself grabbing last-minute tickets to an NYE celebration for the city’s very “cool” set than this is the outfit for you. The key to creating a look like this is creativity. I grabbed pieces from my closet that I have worn on many occasions and combined them with some recently acquired pieces that I snagged during past holiday sales. The BCBG blouse is an oldie but goodie and is my favorite go-to top. The vest, a Christmas gift that I was delighted not to return. The trendy metallic pants are from Zara, perfect to layer with some long underwear( people will never even know), and silver platform shoes made by Jessica Simpson. I accessorized the look with stackable rings, a 2 dollar chocker from Forever 21, and a Juicy Couture necklace from my personal jewelry collection.
Wear It to Prix Fixe Pop-up Dinner
If you made dinner reservations last-minute you will probably need a last-minute outfit as well. As mentioned in a previous post, red was the fall color of the year; so it only makes sense to end the last day of the year.
For this look, a dress is a way to go. I styled a Calvin Klein bell sleeved midi dress from Saks Off-Fifth with bright red, thigh high, Lycra boots from the INC collection by Macy’s. I kept the jewelry very aristocratic, pearls, gold, and Ferragamo. In an outfit like this, you will be everyone’s #WCE, #Stylecrush, and whatever other worthy hashtags. After dinner, take this statement look out for a stroll and into every bar, restaurant, or lounge in the city. You should have no trouble getting in anywhere.
How To Wear It Post New Year’s Eve
The beauty of these looks is that they can easily be worn again in 2018. Each look, from head to toe, can be refashioned to suit any and every occasion in the New Year. Don’t go broke buying an outfit that you will only be in for a maximum of six hours. Instead, do what I did get creative with your end of the year style.
